The Clark Family: Revolutionizing Social-Emotional Learning in the Digital Age
In today’s digital-first world, the need for social-emotional skills has never been more critical. Enter Chris Clark Jr. and Dr. Myava Clark, a dynamic mother-son duo who are changing the game in social-emotional learning (SEL) and online safety for young people.
A Personal Mission Becomes a Family Enterprise
Chris Clark Jr.’s journey began with his own experiences as a child with learning differences. Faced with challenges in social situations and online interactions, Chris turned his struggles into inspiration. He approached his mother, Dr. Myava Clark, with an innovative idea: create a tool to help children with learning differences navigate social media safely and confidently.
This collaboration led to the birth of CASEN (Collaborative Advancement for Social-Emotional Needs) LLC. CASEN is more than just a company; it’s a comprehensive ecosystem designed to support children’s social-emotional development in the digital age.
CASEN: A Multifaceted Approach to SEL
CASEN offers several key initiatives:
- CASEN Outreach: Chris speaks directly to youth about online bullying, digital footprints, and social media readiness.
- CASEN Education Social Network Wellness Academy: Courses in Social-Emotional Development, Bullying Identification, and more.
- CASEN Connect: A safe social media platform for children to practice their skills.
- CASEN Parents: Resources to help parents support their children’s social-emotional growth.
Dr. Myava Clark: From Healthcare to Advocacy
Dr. Myava Clark, with a Ph.D. in Higher Education and Leadership & Administration, transitioned from a successful career in respiratory therapy to becoming an advocate for families of children with learning differences. Her experiences navigating the special education system with Chris fueled her passion for helping others facing similar challenges.
Today, Dr. Clark is not only a program director for a Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy program but also a best-selling author, offering guidance to parents of children with learning and thinking differences.
A Family United in Purpose
Together, Chris and Dr. Clark are creating a movement. Their work through CASEN aims to empower children aged 9 – 13, especially those with learning differences, to become confident and safe online participants.
Their latest initiative, the CASEN Connect platform, is currently seeking support through a fundraiser. This innovative platform bridges the gap between SEL taught in schools and its practical application in daily digital interactions.
As we navigate the complexities of the digital age, the work of innovators like the Clark family becomes increasingly vital. Their holistic approach to social-emotional wellness sets a new standard for preparing our children for the challenges and opportunities of the online world.
