A Space Where Understanding Flourishes
When I envisioned creating MOEK (Mothers of Exceptional Kids), I dreamed of spaces where parents could feel truly seen and understood. Our first “Parenting with Purpose” meeting brought that vision to life in ways that exceeded my expectations. To each mother who joined us and shared her story, thank you. Your courage in discussing both the challenges and joys of raising children with unique abilities created a foundation of authenticity that will support our community for years to come.
Moments That Mattered
Several moments from our gathering continue to resonate with me:
The relief on a new mother’s face when another parent nodded in understanding at her description of navigating the early diagnosis process. The spontaneous problem-solving that happened when one mom mentioned struggling with her child’s sensory needs at bedtime, and three different approaches were gently offered from others who had faced similar challenges. The laughter, yes, genuine laughter, as we shared some of the unexpected and sometimes humorous moments that come with our unique parenting journeys.
Extending Our Circle
For mothers/fathers who couldn’t attend our first meeting, please know that our circle has space for you. Our MOEK Facebook community [https://www.facebook.com/groups/913158726444830] serves as our digital gathering place between in-person meetings, offering support when you need it most. We have a monthly MOEK Parenting with a Purpose Meeting every 1st Tuesday of the Month at 8 PM EST. What MOEK Offers
Our community provides:
- A judgment-free space to ask questions and share concerns
- Resource sharing from parents who’ve “been there”
- Celebration of milestones that others might not understand the significanceÂ
- Advocacy strategies and support
- Friendship with others who truly understand your daily reality
Looking Forward
As MOEK grows, I envision a network where no mother/parent of a child with unique abilities ever has to feel isolated. Where expertise is shared freely, and where the collective wisdom of our experiences creates pathways that make everyone’s journey a little easier. I invite every mother/father raising a child with exceptional needs to join us. Your perspective matters. Your experience carries wisdom. Your presence strengthens our community. Together, we’re transforming what can be an isolating experience into one of profound connection and purpose.Â
Join our MOEK Facebook community today [https://www.facebook.com/groups/913158726444830], and let’s continue building this supportive network together.
